Roller Erasers! Making Mistakes More Fun!

Added on by the ikebana shop.

Introducing an eraser that makes writing more fun...

...or more precisely, it makes mistakes more fun! :-)

Erase as usual.  Then, flip open the top cap and use the little roller to scoop up the eraser dust.  Cute, no?

The eraser bits get collected in the box underneath the roller. Don't forget to empty it into the trash from time to time! :-)

We have four different colours in cute designs.  Children love it!

Made in China for Lemon Stationery Co., Japan.

Available at the shop.

Reminder: Not just for kids! :-)

2013 Holiday Arrangement Offer

Added on by the ikebana shop.

We are preparing an arrangement for the holiday season for you!  See the end of this post for details.

The poinsettias are kept intact in their pots so they will last through the season as long as they are watered properly.  (Cut poinsettias do not survive for long  and  so are seldom used in ikebana!)

IMG_1237.jpg

We hand-painted some dried branches and leaves to give it the season's glitter!  The greens are fresh.

...and some fun holiday ribbon to wrap it all up! :-)

This arrangement will make your house ready for the holiday season. ..or they are great house-visit presents too!

Price of the arrangement:
40.00 plus HST.

Available for pick up at the shop on Dec 13th-15th.

Call or email us to place your order!

The Black Kenzan

Added on by the ikebana shop.

Black is one of the basic colours of ikebana flower containers.  A shiny kenzan in a black container would be a distraction and draw attention away from the real focal point of an arrangement.  It is something that one would rather not see!  For a discriminating ikebanista, obscuring the shiny kenzan used in a black container could be quite the challenge!

You can put the covering pebbles aside...  Say hello to the black kenzan!

It is a steel kenzan that is stained black by ionic bonding.  The tone is smooth and uniform.

It "disappears" inside the black container!

Hardly noticeable!  Don't you just love it? :-)

It's that little bit of extra detail that could sometimes spell the difference between a so-so and an outstanding arrangement!

Add the black kenzan to your ikebana arsenal!

We have a collection of black kenzans available.  Click here to see!

Hand-Sewn Picture Frame Brooches

Added on by the ikebana shop.

When we were working on our "owl project"....

IMG_0755.jpg

...we had a lot tiny scraps of felt leftover.  It felt (pardon the pun!) like such a waste to just throw them away.  So, we decided to make little pictures out of them...hand-sewn!

Our inspiration?  Nova Scotia!  Does this look familiar?  :-)

It's the iconic lighthouse on Peggy's Cove, of course!

From A Happy Knife Customer

Added on by the ikebana shop.

Here is an email we received from Val.

I really enjoy this new arrangement between the shop and Peter Nowlan of New Edge. As you know, I've given the service a pretty good test - various blades and brands, serrated edges, dried out handles and one knife missing a healthy chunk of its tip. You must wonder about the state of my kitchen.

The results of Peter's work are excellent - hand sharpening, oiling, repairing - he pays attention to the details, is thoughtful, and obviously cares about this work.

The reasonable prices, quick turn around time and convenience of dropping my knives off at the Ikebana Shop are most appreciated.  Because both you and Peter take such a personal approach to making things work, I can have confidence in the service from beginning to end.

Thanks for this,
Val

Thank you very much for your feedback, Val!

See below the "before" and "after" pics of Val's knife with the broken tip.

Macaron Ring Case

Added on by the ikebana shop.

We took inspiration from that delicious snack, the macaron, and used its shape for something completely different.

Ring cases!

They open-and-close through a zipper.  They are cushioned inside.  The perfect place to put your ring when it's not on your finger!  Some earrings would fit too!

By the way, this is not our original idea.  It's been all the rage in Japan a few years back but... these ones are hand-made in Nova Scotia, Canada!

Available at the shop or online.
4.50 CAD each (plus HST where applicable).

Our New Nageire Containers

Added on by the ikebana shop.

Lately, it has been getting more and more difficult to find nageire containers.  So we thought we'd get some made for us...right here in Nova Scotia, Canada...a place  abounding with pottery talent!

NAGE PC GROUP.jpg

We gave our minimum specifications from the ikebana point of view and left the artist to play with everything else!  We asked that the vases be thick enough to withstand the crossbar fixture.  (Yes, we had broken a few vases in the past because the vase walls had not been able to withstand the pressure!)  We also asked for grooves on the inside for better traction.

NAGE PC-6-3.jpg

We left the artist free to choose the type of clay, glaze and texture...with beautiful results!  Here are the first 6 pieces.  Each vase is hand-made.  Each vase is one-of-a-kind.  Proudly made in Nova Scotia, Canada.
